T-FRAME

T-Frame is located on the island of Tinos, in a topography with a steep slope characterized by barren ground, held back by dry stone walls and similar platforms, yet allowing an unobstructed western view of the sea front. The wider area is characterized by the absence of tall vegetation, being a typical example of the Cycladic landscape, and at the same time provides a series of contrasting images: the arid bare ground with the imposing presence of the sea, the man-made constructions in contrast with the elements of nature, the micro-scale of the plant elements in relation to the vastness of the open horizon.
Architectural practice emphasizes the data of the place and translates them into qualities of space. The tourist residences are articulated in two completely distinct building volumes which are differentiated in terms of functions, construction materials and relationship with the surrounding area. The two volumes are developed on two levels and correlate with the existing topography.
At the lower level, independent residential units are organised, partly underground and partly private, while at the upper level, communal activities are arranged. The building volume is simplified and creates a perfectly clear frame to the view. The interior and exterior environment are unified by a continuous opening that allows for unobstructed views and the creation of a unique living experience.
